Day 5: Manuel Antonio

When we got into Manuel Antonio it was pretty late. We had paid for a standard room in advance, and they were all full when we got there. They upgraded us for free to a honeymoon suite. It had a HUGE balcony with rocking chairs, a jacuzzi, a super comfortable couch and a flat screen TV.

Despite all the luxury, they do some really odd decorating. If you've ever seen "Fools Rush In", when the guy's new wife decorates his house Mexican style you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. One wall was bright orange, and the other was a neon greenish color. The sink was actually this thick hand made, hand-painted pot with paintings of Tucans all over it (I really liked the pot, it was just weird).

We weren't a big fan of the place, because they tried really hard to get you to spend money on stuff in the hotel, it was kind of annoying. Our first night, we told the bell hop that we didn't want anything to drink. The guy from the bar took the "liberty" of pouring us a couple of glasses of Champagne. When I told him we didn't drink he said "It's ok, it's Champagne". Once I told him we didn't drink because of our religion he understood.

Breakfast at this place was incredible. I loved these breakfast burritos with this amazing cream and bean sauce, and Rachel really liked the french toast. All of the hotels in Costa Rica include a free breakfast. It's not a normal breakfast, it's usually huge with fresh fruit, bread, and a main dish.

After breakfast we went to the National Park. It's supposed to be one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the country in a fairly small area (only a couple of square miles). We decided to skip using a guide (they're pretty boring). It was a beautiful area, but we had already seen some amazing sights at the Hanging Bridges tour, so it didn't quite have the same effect. We didn't see a whole lot of animals, but we did see some sloths.

The beach was pretty amazing. The water temperature was so warm (around 80 degrees I'd say), and it was beautiful.

Manuel Antonio was ridiculously hot and humid. We were dying there, but it was so beautiful. After we got home we got a bite to eat, and relaxed on the patio.
